The support available breaks down as follows:
- ‘Start Up’ grants of £4,000 awarded and a place on a Start Up SSE learning programme.
- ‘Scale Up’ grants of £15,000 awarded and a place on a Scale Up SSE learning programme.
Extended Description
The Lloyds Banking Group Social Entrepreneurs Programme is funded by Lloyds Banking Group, with support from Nominet Trust, which is funding internet-focused projects as part of the programme. The programme will comprise comprehensive support from the School for Social Entrepreneurs (SSE) through its innovative 'action learning' programmes.
This programme is intended to support social entrepreneurs from across the UK to start or scale-up their projects. It is expected to support 150 social entrepreneurs each year, for five years.
The programme comprises the following support strands:
Start Up
For those who are in the early stage development of a project or organisation. This programme will support personal development and business skills development to help turn projects or project ideas into a reality. Learning areas include:
Setting up a social enterprise
- Strategy
- People and money
- Marketing
- Leadership
- Presentation skills
- Social impact
Scale Up
For established organisations that are looking to take their operations to the next level. This programme will equip applicants with the tools to develop their enterprise further and maximise its social impact.
Learning areas include:
- Strategies for growth and sustainability
- Partnerships
- Staff development
- Learning in a changing environment
- Trading
- Impact and evaluation
- Funding and investment for growth

Key Criteria
Individuals who are leading or planning to set up a project or social enterprise organisation which will create social change in the UK may apply.
Entrants must be aged 16 years or over and live in the UK
Existing organisations that are under two years old must have an income of less than £25,000 per year and no permanent staff.

Eligible Expenditure
Both the 'Start Up' and 'Scale Up' courses use the key components of the SSE's learning methodology:

Match Funding Restrictions
Match funding is not a stipulated requirement.
Restrictions
International projects cannot be supported. Although there are no further exclusions cited, those wishing to apply are advised to liaise with the sponsor in the first instance to discuss eligibility.
