Creative Credits Fund Makes A Welcome Return

The second phase of a programme aiming to help Greater Manchester-based businesses make the most of the region’s booming creative sector has re-opened to applications.

Through their Creative Credits scheme, innovation support body NESTA is offering SMEs, social enterprises and not-for-profit groups the chance to net £4,000 to work alongside a local creative firm on a wide range of business development projects.

Participating firms will be expected to compliment the £4,000 grant with £1,000 from their own pockets.

NESTA launched the initiative last September because it believed the innovation of creative sector companies can drive forward business performance in other industries, especially in terms of developing new products and processes.

Seventy-five companies received a “Credit” during round one of the initiative, with a similar number of grants up for grabs during the current round.

Jonathan Kestenbaum, chief executive of NESTA, said:

“During tough economic times, it is the innovators who move ahead. The Creative Credits programme will unlock innovation by giving small firms an incentive to find new areas of growth.

“It's an ambitious but practical attempt to stimulate growth across the Greater Manchester economy and one we are keen to learn from to benefit the rest of the economy.”
