Social Enterprise Coalition Publishes Manifesto

The Social Enterprise Coalition has released its manifesto in the run up to the General Election highlighting the importance of social enterprise to the economy.

"No More Business as Usual – a Manifesto for Social Enterprise" intends to promote how social enterprises are central to the recovery of the nation’s economy and how they may satisfy public demand for ethical businesses.

The manifesto has been developed following consultation with UK social enterprises and makes several policy suggestions which could maximise the opportunity social enterprise offers.

These include:

  • The integration of social enterprise models within public sector agencies.
  • Legislation allowing communities to buy and manage local assets.
  • Tax incentives for social enterprise.
  • Focus on tailored employment practices building on the gains made by the Future Jobs Fund.
  • Regular data collection on social enterprise.

CEO of the Social Enterprise Coalition Peter Holbrook said:

“"This is a crucial time for the social enterprise movement - as the UK emerges from recession the public demands, and deserves, a fairer and more sustainable economy. Social enterprise can help to achieve this, but we need the right support.

"In this General Election year, the Social Enterprise Coalition Manifesto lays out a number of ways in which the next government can help social enterprise achieve its aim to significantly increase both its contribution to GDP and its impact on the lives of individuals and communities across the UK."
